Educational Package: 7.5 Years Longer Life (Free)
From OH! to AWE! A warm educational package to thaw frozen perceptions (for students around 10 years old).
People with a positive view of aging live an average of 7.5 years longer. Given this, why are our images of aging and dementia often portrayed negatively in language, media, metaphors, and personal stories?
We have the opportunity to provide children with a more nuanced view, increasing the likelihood that they will live longer and happier lives themselves. This cannot be achieved through a song, dance, or craft project for grandparents or unknown elderly people in a care home, no matter how well-intentioned. This educational package is based on thorough scientific research and practical experience from Dr. Kasper Bormans (Maastricht University).
What does the package include? Children draw elderly people before and after positive interventions and encounters with grandparents and unknown elderly individuals (e.g., in a care home). This changes their ‘mental landscape’ and their perspective on the elderly. This benefits everyone.
What does the package offer? A refreshing and concrete step-by-step approach with background information, a plan of action, and follow-up. The package is flexible and can be personalized by the participants.
Why participate?
- Enhance the positive image of aging among children.
- Increase the quality of life and longevity of future generations.
